“The church of the dropouts, the losers, the sinners, the failures, & the fools”  

 

Poignant words.  Nothing pretty about this crowd - we are the needy, the spiritually bankrupt, the downtrodden, the ones who have looked to false idols to fill our longings of peace, prosperity, self-worth, and meaning in this life.  These people aren’t hard to find - look in the mirror, look in the Church, look at work or school, look under the bridge or across the tracks, look to spiritualists and nominalists and those of other faiths, look to those who claim to worship nothing.  Is it possible to worship nothing?  Hardly.   Everyone worships something be it the false idols of money, power, looks, prestige, love or security; false gods like rocks and rivers,  Buddhas, and christs without crosses; or the one true God as found in Christ Jesus.      

        

Why begin a new church in Hays County?  Simply because we, sinners, can be found here - both those of us who have yet to encounter Christ and those of us who desire to continue growing in His grace and mercy.  Who will Church of the Cross serve in San Marcos, Kyle, or Wimberley?  Any who are in sin and despair, any who have false idols, any who struggle with faith, any who intend to mature in Christ, any who seek the True God.  By God’s provision, Church of the Cross will mirror the words above and be a church full of redeemed sinners who have found their life in Christ.
